Claudia M. Torres
Claudia M. Torres was born in New York but has lived in Miami, Florida since she was 3 years old. She graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. However, she never worked in the profession because libraries were her true calling. She's been working for the Miami Dade Public Library System since 1991 where she is currently a Librarian I/Circulation Manager at the Main Library in Downtown, Florida.
Claudia and her husband are animal lovers, they own a four-legged princess, their cat Zoe, and an American Bulldog, Dakota. On their spare time, Claudia and her husband enjoy attending cultural art activities- going to ballet, concerts, movies, operas, symphonies and the theater. She also enjoys travelling and has been to Egypt, Jordan, Mexico, different countries within Central America and Europe, and different cities within the United States.
When asked what being a librarian means to her, she responded: "Being a librarian is the most satisfying job I can imagine. Every single day I am privileged to touch someone’s life. Whether on the slowest or most hectic day, at least one person thanks me, and I can tell they mean it. I don’t think that happens at many jobs. I interact with people of all ages and from all walks of life. I believe in the power of knowledge and the importance of making information available to everyone. Supervising other paraprofessional staff, I have realized the importance of promoting sound library practices to insure that patrons’ informational needs are met. Libraries are the heart of any society."
